New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) (Academic) Level 4
This qualification is intended for learners of English as an additional language, who wish to pursue further English language study in an academic context. This qualification is at a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) mid B2. This qualification allows educational institutions to make informed judgements regarding the level at which the graduate can use English for academic purposes. This qualification facilitates appropriate English Language Proficiency for entry into diploma and bachelor programmes studies in New Zealand.
Content:
The primary focus of the Level 4 programme is the acquisition of English grammatical structures, functional language and language skills over the four areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing for use in academic contexts and for academic purposes. Where appropriate, the course will seek to integrate skills over the four language areas.
Entry Requirements:
- Be a minimum of 16 years of age prior to the commencement of the programme;
- Must meet New Zealand Immigration requirement;
- have achieved an IELTS score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5.0 or equivalent, or students have had their language skills assessed to be at this level range to be eligible for the programme.
For student who does not meet requirement 3 above, NZCB will use their own placement test and a one-on-one interview to assess and determine a student’s entry level.

16 weeks Full time on-site AND Full time online
Class times:
9.00am – 3.30pm, Monday – Friday with some time allocated for self-study
